“Yeah, I’ll be able to get that on my bike” – is often the phrase I like to imagine was said to result in the following scenes. We often have to remind ourselves that it’s not normal to see five people on a bike as we’ve become so used to seeing crazy things in our day-to-day lives. Motorbikes are the main source of transport in Ho Chi Minh, with their being no subway and traffic being a nightmare, the baton often falls with bikes to transport almost any type of goods around the city, and boy do they try everything!
I’ve started capturing the craziest ones I’ve seen recently when we’ve been zipping around the city so here’s a few for you!
THE complete AIR-CONDITIONING UNIT (PLUS PIPING)
tHE DOZENS & DOZENS OF LILLIES
The computer tower
The MINIATURE car
the very big boxes (there’s a bike under there somewhere!)
the very long pole (plus ladder)
The ice delivery man (with a race against time in 35 degree heat)
These giant rolls of padding we saw riding along
And finally, this mobile garden centre!
**I will update this post as I see more and more – so check back every now & then**
Sadly, these are the only ones I’ve managed to capture. I’ve seen a bike carrying a whole front bumper of a car, a bike with a huge 10ft mirror sandwiched upright between the driver and the passenger, multiple instances of five people on a bike, car doors, and so many more. It’s always too late to get a photo of some of them but I’m determined to update this blog with more as I see them!
